Shipping from Dubai
to Christmas Island.
We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to Christmas Island by sea and by air. We carry business and personal cargo. This is an Australian external territory in the Indian Ocean, and its rules are its own: separate biosecurity conditions, and, unusually, no road vehicle import approval requirement of the kind the mainland applies.
Overview
Sea and air freight
to Christmas Island.
We ship from Dubai to Christmas Island by sea and by air. Christmas Island is an Australian external territory in the Indian Ocean rather than the Pacific, and the Port of Christmas Island is an approved first point of entry for commercial vessels, freight containers and general goods. Christmas Island Airport is an approved first point of entry for international aircraft and goods. The territory has its own biosecurity import conditions, separate from ordinary mainland Australian domestic movement, and depending on the goods a permit, pre-shipment processing, inspection, treatment or certification may be required. We could not verify a current published Dubai transit range, so both modes are quoted from the routing we can book. We deliver to Flying Fish Cove, Poon Saan, Silver City, Drumsite and Kampong.

Ports and gateways
Ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.
Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. For Christmas Island we fly into one airport. The discharge point and the clearance point are decided by different things, so they are worth choosing separately.
POLPort of loading
We collect anywhere in the UAE, free zones included, and load at whichever of these eight suits the cargo.

PODPort of discharge
The right one is whichever leaves the shortest inland leg to your delivery address. On a long lane that leg is a shipment in its own right, so it is planned rather than assumed.

How cargo reaches Port of Christmas Island
The Port of Christmas Island is an approved first point of entry for commercial vessels, freight containers and general goods. We could not verify a current Dubai liner transit, so we quote the routing we can actually book. Sea freight is priced per container on a full load and per cubic metre on a shared one. How cargo reaches Christmas Island Airport
Air freight from Dubai to Christmas Island transfers through Perth, and the territory rations the small hold available by cargo priority, so acceptance is confirmed before booking rather than assumed. Times vary from flight to flight, so we confirm the days when we quote. The Port of Christmas Island is the alternative for anything beyond a light consignment. The quote separates uplift, the Perth transfer, screening, terminal, customs, quarantine and final delivery charges. Get a rate for Christmas Island Airport

Before you ship
Import rules
for Christmas Island.
Christmas Island has its own biosecurity import conditions, separate from ordinary mainland Australian domestic movement. Depending on the goods, a permit, pre-shipment processing, inspection, treatment or certification may be required, and where treatment is required it has to be completed before the goods are dispatched rather than on arrival. That makes the biosecurity work our job in Dubai. There is a second point that runs the other way, and it genuinely surprises people: Australian federal guidance is that a road vehicle import approval is not required merely to import a vehicle into an Australian External Territory. So the approval that governs shipping a car to mainland Australia does not apply here. Importing that same vehicle onward from Christmas Island into mainland Australia later is a separate process with its own requirements, which is worth knowing before you treat the island as a staging post.

Documentation
Documents you need
for Christmas Island.
These 8 cover most shipments to Christmas Island. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.
- 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
- 02Packing list showing what is inside
- 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
- 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
- 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you
- 06Biosecurity import permit where required
- 07Treatment or inspection certificate where required
- 08Customs or border documentation applicable to the external territory
Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

Questions
Cargo to Christmas Island
questions, answered.
The 16 we are asked most on the Dubai to Christmas Island route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.
Do you offer movers and packers for a house move from Dubai to Christmas Island?
Yes. Our movers and packers do the packing, wrapping and listing in Dubai, then we ship your furniture and household goods in a full container, or share one if you have less to send. The item by item list matters, because customs clear personal effects against it. Fuel, gas cylinders, paint, aerosols and loose batteries cannot travel, and we give you the full list before packing day.
Can you ship my car from Dubai to Christmas Island?
Yes. The car goes inside a container, sealed and protected, and we handle the export paperwork in Dubai. Christmas Island sets its own rules on vehicle age, specification and approval, and duty on a vehicle is worked out differently from general cargo, so tell us the make, model and year first and we will confirm what applies before you commit.
How long does shipping from Dubai to Christmas Island take?
We could not verify a current published transit range for this territory, so we do not print one. The island is served infrequently, which makes the sailing schedule more important than the transit time. We quote the routing we can actually book and tell you the cutoff.
Do I need a road vehicle import approval for Christmas Island?
Australian federal guidance is that a road vehicle import approval is not required merely to import a vehicle into an Australian External Territory, and Christmas Island is one. That is different from the mainland, where the approval must be obtained before importation. We could not verify a maximum vehicle age. Send us the vehicle details and we will confirm the current position.
Can I bring the car on to mainland Australia later?
That is a separate process with its own requirements, so the island should not be treated as a staging post into the mainland. The relief from the mainland approval applies to importing into the external territory, not to what happens afterwards. Ask us before you plan a move in two stages.
What are the biosecurity rules?
Christmas Island has its own biosecurity import conditions, separate from ordinary mainland Australian domestic movement. Depending on the goods, a permit, pre-shipment processing, inspection, treatment or certification may be required, and required treatment has to be completed before dispatch rather than on arrival. That makes it our job in Dubai, which is why we ask about the product first.
Is Christmas Island in the Pacific?
No, it is in the Indian Ocean, north west of Australia, which is a common source of confusion because of the name and because it is often grouped with Pacific territories. It also should not be confused with Kiritimati in Kiribati, which is sometimes called Christmas Island and is an entirely different country.
How much does shipping from Dubai to Christmas Island cost?
It depends on what you send and how big it is. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Any biosecurity treatment is done in Dubai and quoted with the freight rather than left as a surprise. Send us the details.
Which places on Christmas Island do you deliver to?
Flying Fish Cove, Poon Saan, Silver City, Drumsite and Kampong. The island is small, so once cargo is off the wharf the delivery leg is short. The settlements are few, and we would rather list the real ones than pad the page.
Do you deliver door to door?
Yes. We handle freight forwarding to Christmas Island door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, arrange any pre-shipment treatment, move them, clear the border requirements and bring them to your address.
Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?
You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.
Does air freight avoid the biosecurity conditions?
No. The territory’s import conditions apply to air cargo just as they do to sea freight, and Christmas Island Airport is an approved first point of entry for international aircraft and goods for exactly that reason. Air changes the speed, not the rules.
Do you handle customs clearance for Christmas Island?
Yes, at both ends. We do customs clearance in Dubai and handle the border and biosecurity documentation applicable to the external territory on arrival.
Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?
Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until the right sailing, which matters on an island served infrequently.
Can you move my household goods to Christmas Island?
Yes. We move full house moves and part loads. Household effects are assessed under the territory’s biosecurity conditions, so an accurate packing list is worth real time here. We could not verify the customs and tax treatment for a household move, so we confirm that rather than assuming the mainland position carries across.
Can you ship building materials and equipment?
Yes. We move project cargo to Christmas Island as well. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship. Used machinery needs particular attention to cleaning, because soil and organic matter are what biosecurity looks for, and treatment is far easier to do in Dubai than to fix at the island.
