Shipping from Dubai
to Africa.
We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to every country in Africa, by sea and by air. East Africa is a short sail and West Africa is a long one, so the right answer changes a lot depending on where you are going. We ship business and personal cargo, we handle the paperwork at both ends, and we deliver to the door.
Overview
Sea and air freight
to Africa.
Shipping from Dubai to Africa takes about 7 to 25 days by sea to the east coast, and longer to West Africa, where the ship has to sail around the continent. Air takes 2 to 6 days to most capitals. East Africa is quick and cheap because Mombasa and Dar es Salaam are a straight run down the Indian Ocean. West Africa, into Lagos, Tema, Abidjan and Dakar, takes three to five weeks. North Africa is quicker again through the Suez Canal into Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco. Southern Africa comes into Durban and Cape Town. We deliver to every country and inland to Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Mali and beyond. Navo Shipping handles the sea freight, air freight and customs clearance on the Dubai to Africa route, door to door. Tell us the country and city and we will tell you the best way.

Ports and gateways
Sea ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.
Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. Africa has 35 sea ports we use and 16 airports. They suit different cargo and different inland legs, so the loading port and the discharge port are worth choosing separately.
POLPort of loading
We collect anywhere in the UAE, free zones included, and load at whichever of these eight suits the cargo.

PODPort of discharge
The right one is whichever leaves the shortest inland leg to your delivery address. On a long lane that leg is a shipment in its own right, so it is planned rather than assumed.
- MombasaKEMBASea port · Indian OceanKenya, and the Northern Corridor into Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan and the eastern DRC
How cargo reaches Mombasa
Shipping from Dubai to Mombasa runs from Jebel Ali across the Arabian Sea, 7 to 18 days port to port depending on whether the service is direct or relayed through a hub. Kilindini is the busiest container gateway on this lane and the head of the Northern Corridor, so it is the default for anything going inland to Kampala, Kigali or Juba. Cargo for a landlocked consignee is entered as transit here and moves on under bond, which means the Kenyan conformity and inspection controls apply even when Kenya is not the destination. Get a rate for Mombasa - Dar es SalaamTZDARSea port · Indian OceanTanzania, and the Central Corridor into Rwanda, Burundi, the DRC and Zambia
How cargo reaches Dar es Salaam
Shipping from Dubai to Dar es Salaam sails from Jebel Ali down the East African coast, 8 to 25 days port to port. It handles the large majority of Tanzania's cargo and heads the Central Corridor, which is the competing route into Rwanda and Burundi. The wide range is about waiting for a berth rather than the distance. Waiting times here have run into double figures in days at their worst, so we quote against the arrival window and watch the free-time clock rather than trusting the schedule alone. Get a rate for Dar es Salaam - DjiboutiDJJIBSea port · Gulf of AdenDjibouti, and the corridor that carries almost all Ethiopian trade
How cargo reaches Djibouti
Shipping from Dubai to Djibouti can run on a service that calls Jebel Ali and Djibouti on the same loop, so no separate African feeder is needed. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. The container terminal is built around the Ethiopia corridor, so customs transit into Ethiopia is part of what the port does every day. Full containers are priced per container and shared cargo per cubic metre. Get a rate for Djibouti - BerberaSOBBOSea port · Gulf of AdenSomaliland, and the alternative corridor into eastern Ethiopia
How cargo reaches Berbera
Shipping from Dubai to Berbera has two same service options, so the box can stay on one vessel rather than being relayed. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Berbera has deep water container, reefer, project cargo and livestock facilities, and a road corridor built for Ethiopian transit. Full containers are priced per container, and special cargo follows its handling plan. Get a rate for Berbera - Port SudanSDPZUSea port · Red SeaSudan, and the corridor west into Chad
How cargo reaches Port Sudan
Shipping from Dubai to Port Sudan is checked sailing by sailing, because Red Sea schedules stay sensitive to regional disruption. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. The South Port is the specialised container terminal, separate from the general cargo berths to the north, so the booked terminal matters for clearance. Containers are priced per box, with any relay leg included in the quote. Get a rate for Port Sudan - TangaTZTGTSea port · Indian OceanNorthern Tanzania, as the shorter route to Arusha than Dar es Salaam
How cargo reaches Tanga
Shipping from Dubai to Tanga is normally quoted with a regional connection rather than as a fixed direct call. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Tanga has container handling equipment, cargo barges and a modernised deep berth, so it is a working commercial port and not just a coastal landing point. Full containers are priced per box, with any feeder movement added to the ocean leg. Get a rate for Tanga - LamuKELAMSea port · Indian OceanNorthern Kenya, and the LAPSSET corridor toward South Sudan and Ethiopia
How cargo reaches Lamu
Shipping from Dubai to Lamu is not yet a routine container lane, so we check a regional feeder or a Mombasa alternative before booking. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Lamu's first three deep water berths are working and form the sea end of the LAPSSET corridor, with more building planned. Full containers are priced per box, and project cargo is quoted from its handling plan. Get a rate for Lamu - DurbanZADURSea port · Indian OceanSouth Africa, and the corridor north into Zimbabwe and Zambia
How cargo reaches Durban
Shipping from Dubai to Durban usually connects through another hub now, commonly in India, rather than sailing direct. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Durban is still South Africa's main container gateway, with deepening work planned at the terminal. Full containers are priced per container, and any relay is included in the routing we quote. Get a rate for Durban - BeiraMZBEWSea port · Mozambique ChannelThe corridor into Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi
How cargo reaches Beira
Shipping from Dubai to Beira serves the corridor carrying cargo inland to the west, so it is the gateway to pick when the delivery address is in Zimbabwe, Zambia or Malawi rather than on the coast. Published timings vary too widely to print one range, so we confirm the days when we quote. Full containers are priced per container, and breakbulk or project pieces from what they need to handle. Get a rate for Beira - MaputoMZMPMSea port · Mozambique ChannelSouthern Mozambique and the Gauteng corridor
How cargo reaches Maputo
Shipping from Dubai to Maputo suits southern Mozambique, Eswatini and the South African interior, because the port's road and rail links point south and west, which is what separates it from Beira further north. Get a rate for Maputo - Walvis BayNAWVBSea port · AtlanticNamibia, and the western corridor into Botswana and Zambia
How cargo reaches Walvis Bay
Shipping from Dubai to Walvis Bay reaches Botswana, Zambia and the Congo copper belt through four named inland corridors, including the Trans Kalahari route and the one to Ndola and Lubumbashi, without the congestion of the South African ports. Get a rate for Walvis Bay - LuandaAOLADSea port · AtlanticAngola, and the Lobito corridor into the DRC Copperbelt
How cargo reaches Luanda
Shipping from Dubai to Luanda is booked on West Africa services, and we check the relay point before loading. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. The port has separate container, multipurpose, general cargo and oil service areas, so which terminal receives the cargo depends on what it is. Full containers are priced per box, and project or general cargo is quoted from its terminal and handling plan. Get a rate for Luanda - Lagos (Apapa and Tin Can)NGLOSSea port · Gulf of GuineaNigeria and the West African interior
How cargo reaches Lagos (Apapa and Tin Can)
Shipping from Dubai to Lagos has weekly container options, though published transit figures differ too much to print one range. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Apapa and Tin Can are separate port complexes, so the terminal the line books changes how clearance and collection are planned. Full containers are priced per container, and we check the terminal charges before quoting. Get a rate for Lagos (Apapa and Tin Can) - TemaGHTEMSea port · Gulf of GuineaGhana, and the corridors into Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger
How cargo reaches Tema
Shipping from Dubai to Tema uses West Africa services, and we check the vessel and relay point at booking. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. How cargo reaches Abidjan

Full containers are priced per box, and specialised cargo follows the terminal that handles it. Get a rate for Abidjan - DakarSNDKRSea port · AtlanticSenegal and the corridor into Mali
How cargo reaches Dakar
Shipping from Dubai to Dakar runs on a West Africa service, and we confirm the days when we quote. The port keeps a dedicated quay for Malian traffic alongside its container terminal, so it is the practical entry point when the cargo is really destined for landlocked Mali. Full containers are priced per box, with the Mali corridor quoted as a separate onward leg. Get a rate for Dakar - AlexandriaEGALYSea port · MediterraneanNorthern Egypt and the Nile delta
How cargo reaches Alexandria
Shipping from Dubai to Alexandria goes up through Suez into Egypt's Mediterranean ports, and we check the rotation for each departure. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Alexandria is the older Mediterranean gateway for cargo staying in Egypt, while Damietta and Port Said do more transhipment work. Full containers are priced per container, with local delivery and customs work added separately. Get a rate for Alexandria - DamiettaEGDAMSea port · MediterraneanThe eastern delta, and Mediterranean transhipment
How cargo reaches Damietta
Shipping from Dubai to Damietta goes through Suez and may change vessel inside a line's Mediterranean network rather than staying on one ship. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Damietta has been strengthened as a relay point between Egypt and northern Europe, so it suits cargo that carries on after Egypt. Full containers are priced per box, with any transhipment included in the booked service. Get a rate for Damietta - Port SaidEGPSDSea port · Mediterranean, Suez CanalEgypt, and the relay point at the northern mouth of the canal

How cargo reaches Tanger Med

Full containers are priced per container, with onward feeder movement added when it does. Get a rate for Tanger Med - CasablancaMACASSea port · AtlanticCentral Morocco
How cargo reaches Casablanca

How cargo reaches Zanzibar
Shipping from Dubai to Zanzibar normally routes through an East African connection rather than a fixed direct call. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Before you ship
Import rules
for Africa.
There is one pattern that runs across most of Africa, and it catches people out again and again. A lot of countries require your goods to be checked here in Dubai before the ship leaves, and to travel with the certificate that check produces. Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Ethiopia and others all work this way under different names. The point is the timing: because the check happens where the goods are, it cannot be arranged once the container has sailed. West African countries add a cargo tracking note, also arranged before the ship leaves. None of it is difficult when it is done at booking. Tell us the country and the product and we will confirm exactly what applies.

Documentation
Documents you need
for Africa.
These 8 cover most shipments to Africa. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.
- 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
- 02Packing list showing what is inside
- 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
- 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
- 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you

Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

Questions
Cargo to Africa
questions, answered.
The 15 we are asked most on the Dubai to Africa route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.
Do you offer movers and packers for a house move from Dubai to Africa?
Yes. Our movers and packers do the packing, wrapping and listing in Dubai, then we ship your furniture and household goods in a full container, or share one if you have less to send. The item by item list matters, because customs clear personal effects against it. Fuel, gas cylinders, paint, aerosols and loose batteries cannot travel, and we give you the full list before packing day.
How long does shipping from Dubai to Africa take?
It depends a lot on where. East Africa is about 7 to 25 days by sea because it is a straight run down the Indian Ocean. West Africa is three to five weeks because the ship sails around the continent. North Africa is quicker through the Suez Canal. Air is 2 to 6 days to most capitals.
How much does shipping from Dubai to Africa cost?
It depends on what you send, how big it is, and where in Africa it is going. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight to Africa is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Air freight to Africa is priced on weight or size, whichever is greater. Send us the details and we send you a price in writing, usually the same day.
Which African countries do you ship to?
All of them. Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Djibouti, Sudan, South Sudan, Rwanda, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo, Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Gambia, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles and the Comoros.
Why is West Africa so much slower than East Africa?
Geography. East Africa is a straight run down the Indian Ocean from Dubai. West Africa means the Red Sea, the Suez Canal and then the whole length of the African coast, usually with a change of ship on the way. That is why air is a more realistic option for West Africa.
Can you deliver to landlocked countries?
Yes. Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso and South Sudan all have no coast, so cargo lands at a neighbouring port and travels inland. We quote the sea leg and the inland leg separately, because the inland leg is often the bigger one.
Do I need a certificate before shipping?
In many African countries, yes, and it has to be arranged here in Dubai before the ship leaves. Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda and Ethiopia all work this way. Tell us the country and the product and we will confirm.
What is a cargo tracking note?
It is a document required by many West African countries, telling customs what is coming before the ship arrives. It has to be arranged in Dubai and approved before the vessel leaves. Cargo without one is held.
Do you deliver door to door?
Yes. We handle freight forwarding to Africa door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them through customs, and bring them to your address. You deal with one company for the whole journey.
Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?
You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.
Can you ship cars to Africa?
Yes, in containers or on car ships, and it is a big part of what we move. Rules on vehicle age vary a lot by country, and some countries do not allow used cars at all. Send us the country, make, model, year and chassis number and we will check before you buy.
Can you ship generators, machinery and project cargo?
Yes. Heavy and oversized items travel in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on a suitable ship. Send us the size and weight and the destination and we will work out the best way to move it.
Do you handle customs clearance in Africa?
Yes, at both ends. We handle customs clearance in Dubai and customs clearance in Africa. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.
Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?
Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. That helps when you are buying from several suppliers and want everything to travel in one container.
Can you move my household goods to Africa?
Yes. We move full house moves and part loads. We pack, collect, move and deliver, and we handle the customs clearance so your things are not waiting on paperwork.
