Shipping from Dubai
to Canada.

We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to Canada by sea and by air. We carry business and personal cargo. Toronto has no sea port, so cargo lands on a coast and comes in by rail, and which coast you use is the decision worth getting right. Your buyer also needs a CARM account before the first shipment.

Overview

Sea and air freight
to Canada.

Shipping from Dubai to Canada takes about 25 to 35 days by sea, and 2 to 5 days by air. Commercial lane information publishes roughly 25 to 32 sailing days to Vancouver and Halifax, with current Montreal schedules in the high twenties. Vancouver is the principal western gateway and rail connects containers inland to Calgary, Edmonton and beyond. Montreal serves Quebec, Ontario and central Canada. Halifax is the Atlantic gateway with strong rail links inland, and Prince Rupert is the alternative Pacific option. Toronto is not a sea port, so cargo for Ontario arrives on a coast and moves by rail. Air cargo flies into Toronto Pearson or Vancouver. Your buyer needs a Business Number and an RM import-export account registered in CARM before the first commercial shipment. We deliver everywhere, including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa and Winnipeg.

Ports and gateways

Sea ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.

Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. Canada has two sea ports we use and two airports. They suit different cargo and different inland legs, so the loading port and the discharge port are worth choosing separately.

  1. POLPort of loading

We collect anywhere in the UAE, free zones included, and load at whichever of these eight suits the cargo.

  2. PODPort of discharge

The right one is whichever leaves the shortest inland leg to your delivery address. On a long lane that leg is a shipment in its own right, so it is planned rather than assumed.

    • Port of VancouverCAVANSea port, Pacific OceanVancouver, British Columbia, Alberta and western Canada
How cargo reaches Port of Vancouver Shipping from Dubai to Vancouver crosses the Pacific with a transshipment in Asia rather than passing a canal, which is why the routing differs from the east coast ports. It is Canada's largest port and serves British Columbia and the prairies. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Prince Rupert is the alternative for rail bound cargo. The quote separates ocean freight, transshipment, carrier surcharges, terminal handling, customs, tax and final delivery. Get a rate for Port of Vancouver
    • Port of MontrealCAMTRInland sea port, St Lawrence RiverMontreal, Quebec, Ontario and central Canada
How cargo reaches Port of Montreal Shipping from Dubai to Montreal comes up the St Lawrence, and the river limits vessel size, so boxes usually transfer to a smaller ship on the way. It is the closest port to Toronto and Ontario by road. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Halifax is the alternative and takes the larger ships. The quote separates ocean freight, transshipment, carrier surcharges, terminal handling, customs, tax and final delivery. Get a rate for Port of Montreal
    • Port of HalifaxCAHALDeep-sea port, Atlantic OceanAtlantic Canada, Quebec, Ontario and rail-linked inland markets
How cargo reaches Port of Halifax Shipping from Dubai to Halifax normally routes through the Suez Canal, or around Africa when the Red Sea is avoided, which is the main thing that moves the transit time. It is deep and ice free, so it takes the largest ships and rails cargo inland. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Montreal is the alternative for Ontario. The quote separates ocean freight, routing surcharges, terminal handling, rail transfer, customs, tax and delivery. Get a rate for Port of Halifax

How cargo reaches Port of Prince Rupert Shipping from Dubai to Prince Rupert crosses the Pacific with a transshipment in Asia. It is the closest North American port to Asia and has almost no local market, so nearly everything moves straight onto a train for the prairies and the Midwest. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Vancouver is the alternative when delivery is local. The quote separates ocean freight, transshipment, terminal handling, rail transfer, customs, tax and delivery. Get a rate for Port of Prince Rupert

How cargo reaches Toronto Pearson International Airport Air freight from Dubai to Toronto Pearson can use accepted belly or freighter capacity, with the routing confirmed live, subject to commodity, space, screening and local cargo handling approval. It is Canada's largest air cargo gateway, so uplift is rarely the constraint. Times vary from flight to flight, so we confirm the days when we quote. Vancouver International is the alternative for the west. The quote separates uplift, connection, screening, terminal, customs, tax and final delivery. Import rules
for Canada.

Canada changed how commercial importing works and a lot of pages have not caught up. A business importing commercial goods needs a Business Number and an RM import-export programme account, and CARM is now the official system of record for commercial accounting and revenue management. Your buyer needs to be registered in it before the first commercial shipment, not when the container is at the border. That registration takes time and it is entirely on the importer’s side, so it is the first thing we check. Regulated goods need their own permits and agency approvals on top. If a vehicle is involved, the Canadian rules are their own subject and worth reading carefully rather than assuming, because the commonly quoted fifteen year figure is widely misdescribed. Tell us the commodity and who is receiving it.

Documentation

Documents you need
for Canada.

These 10 cover most shipments to Canada. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.

  • 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
  • 02Packing list showing what is inside
  • 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
  • 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
  • 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you
  • 06Business Number and an active RM import-export account
  • 07CARM importer registration for the buyer
  • 08CBSA release and commercial accounting data
  • 09Import permit or agency approval, where the commodity is regulated
  • 10Health, food, plant or safety documentation, where the product needs it

Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

Questions

Cargo to Canada
questions, answered.

The 16 we are asked most on the Dubai to Canada route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.

Do you offer movers and packers for a house move from Dubai to Canada?

Yes. Our movers and packers do the packing, wrapping and listing in Dubai, then we ship your furniture and household goods in a full container, or share one if you have less to send. The item by item list matters, because customs clear personal effects against it. Fuel, gas cylinders, paint, aerosols and loose batteries cannot travel, and we give you the full list before packing day.

How long does shipping from Dubai to Canada take?

Sea freight to Canada takes about 25 to 35 days, and air freight to Canada takes 2 to 5 days. Commercial lane information publishes roughly 25 to 32 sailing days to Vancouver and Halifax, with Montreal in the high twenties. Add the inland rail leg for anywhere that is not on a coast. We give you a date in writing when we quote.

Can you ship a car from Dubai to Canada?

Yes, and the rule is the opposite of what most pages say. Canada does not require a vehicle to be under fifteen years old. A vehicle fifteen years or older sits outside the normal age-control framework, which makes it the easier import. A younger vehicle from a country other than the United States or Mexico has to fall into a specific admissible category. So do not ship a newer UAE-market car until Transport Canada admissibility is confirmed. Send us the make, model, year and chassis number and we will check.

What is CARM and does my buyer need it?

CARM is now the official system of record for commercial import accounting in Canada. A business importing commercial goods needs a Business Number and an RM import-export account, and needs to be registered in CARM before the first commercial shipment. It takes time and it is entirely on the importer’s side, so we check it before you book. A lot of shipping pages still do not mention it at all.

Does Toronto have a sea port?

No, and it catches people out. Cargo for Toronto and Ontario lands on a coast and moves inland by rail. Montreal is usually the shortest inland leg because it sits well up the St Lawrence. Halifax is the deep-sea Atlantic option and is ice free year round. Vancouver serves the west and the prairies by rail.

How much does shipping from Dubai to Canada cost?

It depends on what you send, how big it is, and where in Canada it is going. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight to Canada is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Air freight to Canada is priced on weight or size, whichever is greater. Send us the details and we send you a price in writing, usually the same day.

Which cities in Canada do you deliver to?

All of them. Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Quebec City, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Halifax, Victoria, Saskatoon, Regina, London and Windsor. Just give us the address and we bring it to the door.

Which Canadian port should my cargo go to?

Whichever keeps the inland leg sensible. Vancouver for British Columbia, Alberta and the prairies, with rail inland. Montreal for Ontario, Quebec and central Canada. Halifax for Atlantic Canada and as a deep-sea alternative into the centre. Tell us the delivery city and we will pick.

Do you deliver door to door?

Yes. We handle freight forwarding to Canada door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them through customs, and bring them to your address including the inland rail leg. You deal with one company for the whole journey.

Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?

You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. Your goods load at Jebel Ali and come into Vancouver or Montreal. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.

Do you handle customs clearance in Canada?

Yes, at both ends. We handle customs clearance in Dubai and customs clearance in Canada. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.

Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?

Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. On this lane that is useful, because it lets the cargo wait while the CARM registration is confirmed.

Can you ship machinery and heavy equipment to Canada?

Yes. We move project cargo to Canada as well. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship. Vancouver and Halifax both handle heavy and out of gauge cargo, and the rail network moves it inland. Send us the size and weight and the delivery city.

Can you move my household goods to Canada?

Yes. We move full house moves and part loads to Canada, including Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. We pack, collect, move and deliver, and we handle the customs clearance so your things are not waiting on paperwork.

I am moving to Canada. Do I get relief on my belongings?

You may. Settlers and qualifying returning residents can import eligible personal and household effects duty free when the border service conditions are met. A vehicle can be included as personal effects only if it is independently admissible under the Canadian vehicle rules, which is a separate question and the one that decides it. Tell us your situation and what you are bringing.

Should I fly into Toronto or Vancouver?

Toronto Pearson for Ontario, Quebec and the east, and it is Canada’s largest air cargo market. Vancouver for British Columbia and Alberta, because it saves a domestic leg that on this country is a long way. Tell us the delivery city and we will pick.
