Shipping from Dubai
to Costa Rica.

We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to Costa Rica by sea and by air. We carry business and personal cargo. Moin on the Caribbean is the modern container gateway, and Caldera on the Pacific is a genuine alternative depending on where the goods are going. We handle the paperwork at both ends and deliver to your address.

Overview

Sea and air freight
to Costa Rica.

Shipping from Dubai to Costa Rica takes about 33 to 41 days by sea. Cargo normally moves through an international transhipment hub before arrival. Moin on the Caribbean coast is the principal modern container gateway and serves Limon, San Jose, Cartago and Heredia, which covers most of the country. Puerto Limon sits alongside it and handles Caribbean side cargo, though container traffic is increasingly centred on Moin. Caldera on the Pacific is the alternative when the west coast route or the inland destination suits it better. Air cargo flies into Juan Santamaria at San Jose, or Daniel Oduber Quiros at Liberia for Guanacaste. We deliver everywhere, including San Jose, Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia, Limon, Liberia and Puntarenas. Navo Shipping handles the sea freight, air freight and customs clearance on the Dubai to Costa Rica route, door to door.

Ports and gateways

Sea ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.

Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. Costa Rica has three sea ports we use and two airports. They suit different cargo and different inland legs, so the loading port and the discharge port are worth choosing separately.

  1. POLPort of loading

We collect anywhere in the UAE, free zones included, and load at whichever of these eight suits the cargo.

  2. PODPort of discharge

The right one is whichever leaves the shortest inland leg to your delivery address. On a long lane that leg is a shipment in its own right, so it is planned rather than assumed.

How cargo reaches Moin Shipping from Dubai to Moin is the standard route into Costa Rica, at about 33 to 41 days on a current commercial lane source. Moin is the principal modern container gateway and handles the great majority of the country’s box traffic. Sea freight is priced per container on a full load and per cubic metre on a shared one. Costa Rica is compact, so the inland leg to San Jose and the central valley is short once the goods clear. Get a rate for Moin
    • Puerto LimonCRLIOSea port, Caribbean SeaLimon province and Caribbean side cargo
How cargo reaches Puerto Limon Shipping from Dubai to Puerto Limon reaches the Caribbean coast through the Suez Canal or around Africa. It is the older city port and now works mainly general and conventional cargo, because the container traffic moved next door to Moin. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Moin is the alternative for boxes. The quote separates ocean freight, routing surcharges, terminal handling, customs, tax and delivery. Get a rate for Puerto Limon

How cargo reaches Caldera Shipping from Dubai to Caldera crosses the Pacific with a transshipment in Asia rather than passing a canal, which is a different routing from the Caribbean side of the country. It is the closest port to San Jose by road. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Moin is the alternative and handles more containers. The quote separates ocean freight, transshipment, terminal handling, customs, tax and final delivery. Get a rate for Caldera

How cargo reaches Juan Santamaria International Airport Air freight from Dubai to Juan Santamaria connects through a European or American hub, subject to commodity, space, screening and local cargo handling approval. It is Costa Rica's main air cargo gateway and serves San Jose and the central valley. Times vary from flight to flight, so we confirm the days when we quote. Daniel Oduber Quiros is the alternative for Guanacaste. The quote separates uplift, connection, screening, terminal, customs, tax and final delivery. Before you ship

Import rules
for Costa Rica.

Costa Rica does not use one number or import permit that every shipment needs before it leaves Dubai, so ordinary commercial cargo is straightforward. What decides a shipment is the product. Food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical devices, agricultural goods and chemicals commonly need registration or approval from the Ministry of Health, the agriculture authorities or another regulator, and where that applies it is a registration of the product rather than a form for the shipment. That is the important distinction, because a product registration takes time and cannot be arranged at the border. Most ordinary goods need nothing beyond the customs declaration through the national system. Tell us the product and the HS code and we will tell you which side of the line you are on before you book.

Documentation

Documents you need
for Costa Rica.

These 9 cover most shipments to Costa Rica. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.

  • 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
  • 02Packing list showing what is inside
  • 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
  • 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
  • 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you
  • 06Costa Rican customs import declaration
  • 07Health Ministry import permit or product registration, where the product needs one
  • 08Sanitary or plant health certificate, where it applies
  • 09Agriculture authority approval, where the commodity requires it

Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

Questions

Cargo to Costa Rica
questions, answered.

The 15 we are asked most on the Dubai to Costa Rica route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.

Do you offer movers and packers for a house move from Dubai to Costa Rica?

Yes. Our movers and packers do the packing, wrapping and listing in Dubai, then we ship your furniture and household goods in a full container, or share one if you have less to send. The item by item list matters, because customs clear personal effects against it. Fuel, gas cylinders, paint, aerosols and loose batteries cannot travel, and we give you the full list before packing day.

How long does shipping from Dubai to Costa Rica take?

Sea freight to Costa Rica takes about 33 to 41 days, with cargo relaying through an international hub on the way. For air freight we could not verify a current transit range we would be willing to publish, so we confirm what is actually running for your cargo at the quote rather than giving you a number that might not hold. We give you a date in writing either way.

Which port does my container arrive at?

Moin on the Caribbean coast, in most cases. It is the principal modern container gateway and where the country’s box traffic is centred. Puerto Limon sits alongside it and handles provincial cargo. Caldera on the Pacific is the alternative when the routing or the inland destination suits it, and we compare both.

How much does shipping from Dubai to Costa Rica cost?

It depends on what you send, how big it is, and where in Costa Rica it is going. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight to Costa Rica is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Air freight to Costa Rica is priced on weight or size, whichever is greater. Send us the details and we send you a price in writing, usually the same day.

Which cities in Costa Rica do you deliver to?

All of them. San Jose, Alajuela, Cartago, Heredia, Limon, Liberia, Puntarenas, San Ramon, San Isidro de El General, Grecia, Ciudad Quesada, Guapiles, Nicoya and Turrialba. The country is compact, so the inland leg is short once the goods clear.

Does my product need a registration?

It might, and this is the thing to settle early. Food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical devices, agricultural goods and chemicals commonly need registration or approval from the Ministry of Health, the agriculture authorities or another regulator. That is a registration of the product rather than a form for the shipment, so it takes time and cannot be arranged at the border. Send us the product and the HS code and we will check.

Do I need an import permit before shipping?

Not a universal one. Costa Rica does not use a single number or permit that every shipment needs before leaving Dubai. Ordinary commercial cargo just needs the customs declaration through the national system. The exception is product registrations for regulated goods, which do need arranging in advance.

Can you ship a car from Dubai to Costa Rica?

Yes. Used vehicles can be imported, though Costa Rican rules prohibit specified unsafe and total loss vehicle categories, so the condition and history of the car matter as much as anything else. We could not verify any blanket maximum age. Send us the make, model, year and chassis number, along with the title status, and we will check before you buy.

Do you deliver door to door?

Yes. We handle freight forwarding to Costa Rica door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them through customs, and bring them to your address. You deal with one company for the whole journey.

Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?

You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. Your goods load at Jebel Ali and come into Moin. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.

Do you handle customs clearance in Costa Rica?

Yes, at both ends. We handle customs clearance in Dubai and customs clearance in Costa Rica. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.

Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?

Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. That helps when you are buying from several suppliers and want everything to travel to Moin in one container.

Can you ship machinery and heavy equipment to Costa Rica?

Yes. We move project cargo to Costa Rica as well. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship. Send us the size and weight and the delivery town and we will work out the best way to move it.

Can you supply hotels and resorts in Guanacaste?

Yes, and it is a good part of what moves this way. For Guanacaste, Caldera on the Pacific or air into Liberia both save the road leg from the central valley. Resort supply usually works better as a planned repeating shipment than as one-off bookings. Tell us what you need and how often.

Can you move my household goods to Costa Rica?

Yes. We move full house moves and part loads to Costa Rica, including San Jose, Heredia and Liberia. We pack, collect, move and deliver, and we handle the customs clearance so your things are not waiting on paperwork. We could not verify a broad relief scheme for people moving in, so tell us your situation and we will check rather than promise.
