Shipping from Dubai
to Burkina Faso.

We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to Burkina Faso by sea and by air. We carry business and personal cargo. Burkina Faso has no coast, but unusually it can be reached from four different ports at roughly the same distance. That makes the routing a real choice rather than a default, and we price the options rather than picking one for you.

Overview

Sea, road and air freight
to Burkina Faso.

Burkina Faso has no sea port, so shipping from Dubai works in two stages. Goods sail to Abidjan, Tema, Lomé or Cotonou in about 18 to 34 days, then travel north by road to Ouagadougou, which usually takes another two to five weeks. Air into Ouagadougou is 3 to 8 days. What makes this route unusual is that all four ports are roughly the same distance, so the best one changes with congestion, road conditions and rate rather than being fixed. We deliver everywhere, including Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Koudougou, Ouahigouya, Banfora and Fada Ngourma. Navo Shipping handles the sea freight, air freight and customs clearance on the Dubai to Burkina Faso route, door to door. Tell us the delivery city and we will compare the routes properly.

Ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.

Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. Burkina Faso is landlocked, so sea cargo discharges at Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire and travels inland from there. That inland leg is a shipment in its own right, so we plan and price it separately.

The right one is whichever leaves the shortest inland leg to your delivery address. On a long lane that leg is a shipment in its own right, so it is planned rather than assumed.

Before you ship

Import rules
for Burkina Faso.

Burkina Faso needs two cargo tracking notes because your goods pass through another country. One for the port country and one for Burkina Faso itself. Both are arranged in Dubai and approved before the ship leaves. Here is the good news: unlike Mali, the number does not change with the route. Whichever of the four ports you use, it is two. That means you can compare the four routes purely on cost, timing and conditions without the paperwork shifting underneath you. Worth asking about too: several routes have dry ports where cargo can clear inland instead of at a busy seaport or a roadside border.

Documentation

Documents you need
for Burkina Faso.

These 8 cover most shipments to Burkina Faso. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.

  • 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
  • 02Packing list showing what is inside
  • 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
  • 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
  • 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you
  • 06The port country tracking note, approved before the ship leaves
  • 07Burkina Faso cargo tracking note, approved before the ship leaves
  • 08Transit papers for the road leg north

Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

How it works

Dubai to Burkina Faso
shipping, step by step.

Send the cargo details: what it is, where it is going, rough weight and dimensions. We come back with the routes that suit it, sea against road against air, and a written rate with a validity date on it. You pick one, we book it, and one coordinator stays with the shipment until it is delivered in Burkina Faso.

Questions

Cargo to Burkina Faso
questions, answered.

The 14 we are asked most on the Dubai to Burkina Faso route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.

How long does shipping from Dubai to Burkina Faso take?

Sea to a Gulf of Guinea port is about 18 to 34 days, then two to five weeks by road to Ouagadougou. Air into Ouagadougou is 3 to 8 days. We quote the two stages separately.

How much does shipping from Dubai to Burkina Faso cost?

It depends on what you send, how big it is, and where in Burkina Faso it is going. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight to Burkina Faso is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Air freight to Burkina Faso is priced on weight or size, whichever is greater. Send us the details and we send you a price in writing, usually the same day.

Which port should my cargo go through?

It is a real comparison here, because Abidjan, Tema, Lomé and Cotonou are all similar distances. Abidjan is busiest with the deepest transit trade and a rail link. Lomé has the best sea leg. Tema and Cotonou are useful when the others are congested.

Do I need one tracking note or two?

Two, and helpfully that does not change with the route. Unlike Mali, switching ports here does not alter the paperwork, so you can compare the four routes purely on cost and timing.

Which cities do you deliver to?

Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Koudougou, Ouahigouya, Banfora, Fada Ngourma and elsewhere. For the west, Bobo-Dioulasso is closest to the Abidjan route and has its own dry port.

Can I clear my cargo inland instead of at the seaport?

Often yes, and it is worth asking. There are dry ports at Cinkassé on the Togo border, behind Tema, and inland at Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso. Clearing inland keeps your container out of the port yard and the border queue.

Is the road leg more expensive than the sea leg?

Usually yes, and it carries most of the uncertainty. It is several hundred kilometres of road across an international border at the end of a long voyage.

Do you deliver door to door?

Yes. We handle freight forwarding to Burkina Faso door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them through customs, and bring them to your address. You deal with one company for the whole journey.

Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?

You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. Your goods load at Jebel Ali and come into Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.

Is air freight worth it to Burkina Faso?

Worth comparing. Air into Ouagadougou removes the whole road leg, the border crossing and the sea tracking note requirement. Against a total journey that can run to two months at the long end, the numbers are closer than they look.

How do road conditions affect my shipment?

They are a real planning input on Sahel routes. Conditions affect timing and which route makes sense in a given period. We check per shipment and raise it before you commit cargo.

Do you handle customs clearance in Burkina Faso?

Yes, at both ends. We handle customs clearance in Dubai and customs clearance in Burkina Faso. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.

Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?

Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. That helps when you are buying from several suppliers and want everything to travel to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in one container.

Can you ship machinery and heavy equipment to Burkina Faso?

Yes. We move project cargo to Burkina Faso as well. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship into Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Send us the size and weight and we will work out the best way to move it.
