The Netherlands has one thing worth knowing that can save you real money. Normally you pay import VAT when the goods arrive and claim it back months later. In the Netherlands an importer with an Article 23 licence puts the VAT on their VAT return instead, so nothing leaves the bank at all. That is why a lot of companies bring their European goods in through Rotterdam on purpose. A company that is not based in the Netherlands can still do it, but needs a Dutch tax representative, and that takes time to set up. Alongside that, your buyer needs an EORI number and a safety filing goes in before loading. We handle those.

Which Dutch ports do you ship to?
Rotterdam handles almost everything and it is the largest container port in Europe. Vlissingen suits cars and oversized cargo. By air we use Amsterdam Schiphol, with Maastricht for heavy air freight.
What is an Article 23 licence?
It lets an importer put the import VAT on their VAT return instead of paying it when the goods arrive. Because the same return claims it back, usually nothing leaves the bank at all. On regular volumes that saves more than any freight discount.
Can a UAE company get an Article 23 licence?
Not on its own. A company not based in the Netherlands needs a Dutch tax representative to hold and use the licence for them. It is a real arrangement with paperwork behind it, so it is worth starting well before your first shipment.
Why does Rotterdam sometimes arrive before Antwerp or Hamburg?
Because it is usually the first stop in northern Europe. The same ship calls at Rotterdam first, so a box discharged there skips the extra port stops. It is not a different service, just an earlier stop on the same one.
Do you deliver door to door?
Yes. We handle freight to the Netherlands door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them through customs, and bring them to your address. You deal with one company for the whole journey.
Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?
You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. Your goods load at Jebel Ali and come into Rotterdam. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.
Can I move the container inland by barge or train?
Yes, and it is often better. Barges run up the river to Nijmegen and Venlo, and trains run to Tilburg and into Germany. For inland addresses it is usually cheaper than a truck and more reliable. Ask for it, because a standard quote assumes trucking.
What is an EORI number?
It is a free trading number used across the European Union. Whoever imports the goods needs one. It is quick to get online, but nothing clears without it, so we check it before we load.
Do you handle customs clearance in the Netherlands?
Yes, at both ends. We do the export papers in Dubai and clear the goods in the Netherlands. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.
Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?
Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. That helps when you are buying from several suppliers and want everything to travel to Rotterdam in one container.
Can you ship machinery and heavy equipment to the Netherlands?
Yes. We move project cargo to the Netherlands as well. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship into Rotterdam. Send us the size and weight and we will work out the best way to move it.
