Shipping from Dubai
to Bulgaria.
We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to Bulgaria by sea and by air. Varna serves Sofia and the north, Burgas serves Plovdiv and the south, so the port follows the delivery address rather than the other way round. We ship business and personal cargo, and deliver to your door.
Overview
Sea and air freight
to Bulgaria.
Shipping from Dubai to Bulgaria takes about 20 to 30 days by sea, and 2 to 7 days by air. Current route planning puts a Jebel Ali to Sofia movement through Varna at around 25 days on an economical routing. Varna is the main gateway for Sofia and northern and central Bulgaria. Burgas is the southern Black Sea gateway and the better landing point for Plovdiv and the south. Air cargo flies into Sofia, with Plovdiv as a secondary airport that has more limited cargo options. We deliver everywhere, including Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Sliven, Dobrich, Shumen, Haskovo and Veliko Tarnovo. Navo Shipping handles the sea freight, air freight and customs clearance on the Dubai to Bulgaria route, door to door. Tell us what you are sending and where it is going, and we will tell you which port is cheaper.

Ports and gateways
Sea ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.
Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. Bulgaria has two sea ports we use and two airports. They suit different cargo and different inland legs, so the loading port and the discharge port are worth choosing separately.
POLPort of loading
We collect anywhere in the UAE, free zones included, and load at whichever of these eight suits the cargo.

PODPort of discharge
The right one is whichever leaves the shortest inland leg to your delivery address. On a long lane that leg is a shipment in its own right, so it is planned rather than assumed.

How cargo reaches Port of Varna
Shipping from Dubai to Varna is the standard route into Bulgaria, and current route planning puts the whole movement through to Sofia at around 25 days on an economical routing. Varna handles container and general cargo and has the better inland connection to the capital. Sea freight is priced per container on a full load and per cubic metre on a shared one. Services here are less frequent than into Constanta next door, which is worth knowing when you are planning a date. How cargo reaches Port of Burgas
Burgas is the southern Black Sea gateway and the sensible landing point for Plovdiv and the south. Cargo from Dubai may need a regional transhipment to reach it. For a southern consignee it saves the road leg down from Varna, and Plovdiv is a large enough industrial centre that this comes up often. How cargo reaches Sofia Airport
Air freight from Dubai to Sofia can use accepted belly or freighter capacity, with the routing confirmed live, subject to commodity, space, screening and local cargo handling approval. It is Bulgaria's main air cargo gateway and serves the capital and the west. Times vary from flight to flight, so we confirm the days when we quote. Plovdiv is the alternative for the industrial south. The quote separates uplift, connection, screening, terminal, customs, import VAT and final delivery. How cargo reaches Plovdiv Airport
Air freight from Dubai to Plovdiv connects through a European hub, subject to commodity, space, screening and local cargo handling approval. It sits beside the industrial zones of the Maritsa valley and is far quieter on the ground than Sofia. Times vary from flight to flight, so we confirm the days when we quote. Sofia is the alternative for wider scheduled capacity. The quote separates uplift, connection, screening, terminal, customs, import VAT and final delivery. Get a rate for Plovdiv Airport

Before you ship
Import rules
for Bulgaria.
Bulgaria runs on the two EU rules and we handle both. Whoever imports needs an EORI number, which is free, quick to obtain and required before any customs operation. And a safety filing called an Entry Summary Declaration has to reach EU customs before the goods arrive in Europe, under the system known as ICS2. The carrier files it and we supply the data. If you are bringing a vehicle, Bulgaria splits the job in two and it is worth knowing which is which: customs clearance and VAT are one process, and technical approval plus registration is a separate one afterwards. Clearing customs does not put the car on the road. Regulated goods need their own permit. Tell us what you are sending and we will confirm what applies before you book.

Documentation
Documents you need
for Bulgaria.
These 11 cover most shipments to Bulgaria. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.
- 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
- 02Packing list showing what is inside
- 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
- 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
- 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you
- 06EORI number of the importer in Bulgaria
- 07EU customs declaration
- 08ICS2 Entry Summary Declaration data, filed before arrival
- 09Import licence or permit, where the commodity is controlled
- 10Sanitary, veterinary, plant health or conformity certificate, where required
- 11Proof of origin, where you are claiming preferential duty
Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

Questions
Cargo to Bulgaria
questions, answered.
The 15 we are asked most on the Dubai to Bulgaria route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.
How long does shipping from Dubai to Bulgaria take?
Sea freight to Bulgaria takes about 20 to 30 days, with current planning putting a Varna routing through to Sofia at around 25 days. Air freight to Bulgaria takes 2 to 7 days. Services into the Bulgarian ports run less often than into Constanta next door, which is part of why the range is wider. We give you a date in writing when we quote.
How much does shipping from Dubai to Bulgaria cost?
It depends on what you send, how big it is, and where in Bulgaria it is going. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight to Bulgaria is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Air freight to Bulgaria is priced on weight or size, whichever is greater. Send us the details and we send you a price in writing, usually the same day.
Which cities in Bulgaria do you deliver to?
All of them. Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Sliven, Dobrich, Shumen, Pernik, Haskovo, Yambol, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad and Veliko Tarnovo. Just give us the address and we bring it to the door.
Which ports in Bulgaria do you ship to?
Varna is the main gateway and has the better inland run to Sofia and the north. Burgas is the southern Black Sea gateway and the better landing point for Plovdiv and the south. For air cargo we fly into Sofia.
Should my cargo go to Varna or Burgas?
Varna for Sofia and the north. Burgas for Plovdiv and the south. Bulgaria is not large, but landing at the wrong end still means a road leg across the country for no reason. Tell us the delivery town and we will pick.
Can I fly into Plovdiv instead of Sofia?
Usually Sofia is still the better answer. Plovdiv has an airport but its cargo options are more limited, and the road leg from Sofia to Plovdiv is short. We will check both if the timing is tight, but do not count on Plovdiv for a scheduled air shipment.
What is an EORI number?
It is a free trading number used across the European Union. Whoever imports the goods needs one and no customs operation happens without it. It is quick to get online, and we check it before we load.
What is ICS2?
It is the EU safety and security system. A filing called an Entry Summary Declaration has to reach EU customs before your goods arrive in Europe. The carrier files it and we supply the data.
Do you deliver door to door?
Yes. We handle freight forwarding to Bulgaria door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them through customs, and bring them to your address. You deal with one company for the whole journey.
Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?
You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. Your goods load at Jebel Ali and come into Varna. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.
Can you ship a car from Dubai to Bulgaria?
Yes. We do car shipping to Bulgaria, and there are procedures for both new and used vehicles from outside the EU. The thing to plan for is that it is two jobs rather than one: customs clearance and VAT first, then technical approval and registration afterwards. Clearing customs does not put the car on the road. Send us the make, model, year and chassis number and we will set out the sequence.
Do you handle customs clearance in Bulgaria?
Yes, at both ends. We handle customs clearance in Dubai and customs clearance in Bulgaria. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.
Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?
Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. On a lane where sailings are less frequent, consolidating properly before the cargo moves is worth doing.
Can you ship machinery and heavy equipment to Bulgaria?
Yes. We move project cargo to Bulgaria as well. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship. Both Varna and Burgas handle general and heavy cargo. Send us the size and weight and we will work out the best way to move it.
I am moving to Bulgaria. Do I get relief on my belongings?
You may. Bulgarian customs provide relief for personal property when you transfer your normal residence from outside the EU, and personal property can include a private motor vehicle subject to the conditions. Tell us your situation and we will explain what to expect.
