Shipping from Dubai
to Maldives.
We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to the Maldives by sea and by air. We carry business and personal cargo. Everything comes in through Male, and the part that decides your delivery date is what happens after that: the island leg out to the atolls. We ship for businesses, for resorts and for families.
Overview
Sea and air freight
to Maldives.
Shipping from Dubai to the Maldives takes about 8 to 16 days by sea, and 1 to 3 days by air. Male Commercial Harbour is the international container gateway and effectively everything arrives there. Air cargo flies into Velana International, next to Male. What matters on this lane is the second leg: the Maldives is well over a thousand islands, so once the goods clear at Male they go on to the outer atolls by domestic boat or seaplane, and that leg is a shipment in its own right. We deliver to Male, Addu City, Fuvahmulah, Kulhudhuffushi, Thinadhoo, Naifaru, Hithadhoo and Eydhafushi, and to resort islands. We move food and beverages, resort and hotel supplies, construction materials, machinery, electrical goods, furniture and household goods. Navo Shipping handles the sea freight, air freight and customs clearance on the Dubai to Maldives route, door to door. Tell us the island as well as the cargo, and we will price both legs properly.

Ports and gateways
Sea ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.
Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. Sea cargo to the Maldives discharges at Male Commercial Harbour, the only sea port in the country, so there is no discharge port to choose. What is worth choosing is the mode, and where the cargo clears.

PODPort of discharge
The right one is whichever leaves the shortest inland leg to your delivery address. On a long lane that leg is a shipment in its own right, so it is planned rather than assumed.

How cargo reaches Male Commercial Harbour
Shipping from Dubai to Male is a straightforward Indian Ocean crossing of roughly 8 to 16 days depending on the service. Male Commercial Harbour is the country’s international container gateway and handles effectively all sea cargo. Sea freight is priced per container on a full load and per cubic metre on a shared one. Cargo for the outer atolls clears here and then moves on by domestic sea transport, which we arrange as a separate leg. How cargo reaches Velana International Airport
Velana sits beside Male and is the principal air cargo gateway. Air freight from Dubai is 1 to 3 days depending on space on the day. For perishables and urgent resort supply it is usually the right answer, and the onward hop to an island by domestic flight or seaplane is quick once the goods clear. Import rules
for the Maldives.
The Maldives does not require one reference number before the ship leaves Dubai. Imports are declared to Maldives Customs at Male, and ordinary goods need nothing beyond that. Controlled goods need a permit from the government agency that regulates that product, so the commodity is worth checking at booking. The bigger practical point on this lane is geography rather than paperwork. Cargo clears at Male, and if the delivery address is on an outer atoll or a resort island, it then travels on by domestic boat or seaplane. That second leg has its own schedule and its own cost, and it is the part that decides when the goods actually arrive. Tell us the island at the same time as the cargo and we will price the whole journey rather than half of it.

Documentation
Documents you need
for the Maldives.
These 7 cover most shipments to the Maldives. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.
- 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
- 02Packing list showing what is inside
- 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
- 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
- 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you
- 06Maldives customs import declaration at Male
- 07Import permit or regulatory certificate, where the product is controlled
Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

Questions
Cargo to Maldives
questions, answered.
The 15 we are asked most on the Dubai to Maldives route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.
Do you offer movers and packers for a house move from Dubai to Maldives?
Yes. Our movers and packers do the packing, wrapping and listing in Dubai, then we ship your furniture and household goods in a full container, or share one if you have less to send. The item by item list matters, because customs clear personal effects against it. Fuel, gas cylinders, paint, aerosols and loose batteries cannot travel, and we give you the full list before packing day.
How long does shipping from Dubai to Maldives take?
Sea freight to the Maldives takes about 8 to 16 days to Male, and air freight to the Maldives takes 1 to 3 days. If the goods are going to an outer atoll, add the domestic island leg on top, which has its own schedule. We give you a date in writing when we quote.
How much does shipping from Dubai to Maldives cost?
It depends on what you send, how big it is, and which island it is going to. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight to the Maldives is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Air freight to the Maldives is priced on weight or size, whichever is greater. Send us the details and we send you a price in writing, usually the same day.
Which islands do you deliver to?
Male and the atolls, including Addu City, Fuvahmulah, Kulhudhuffushi, Thinadhoo, Naifaru, Hithadhoo and Eydhafushi, plus resort islands. Cargo clears at Male and goes on by domestic boat or seaplane. Give us the island name and we will arrange the whole journey.
Which ports do you ship to in the Maldives?
Male Commercial Harbour handles effectively all sea freight into the country. For air cargo we fly into Velana International, right beside Male.
Why does the island matter so much?
Because Male is where the goods land, not usually where they are going. The domestic leg out to an atoll or a resort has its own schedule, its own boats and its own cost, and on the outer atolls it can be the bigger half of the job. Telling us the island at the start means we price the whole thing rather than half of it.
Do you deliver door to door?
Yes. We handle freight forwarding to the Maldives door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them at Male, and arrange the onward island leg as part of the same job. You deal with one company for the whole journey.
Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?
You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. Your goods load at Jebel Ali and come into Male Commercial Harbour. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.
Can you supply a resort island directly?
Yes, and it is a lot of what moves on this lane. Food and beverage, hotel supplies, furniture, building materials and equipment all go this way. Resort supply usually works best as a planned, repeating shipment rather than one-off bookings. Tell us what you need and how often, and we will set it up.
Can you ship a car from Dubai to the Maldives?
Ask us first. We could not verify the current vehicle import policy to a standard we would be willing to publish, so we are not going to state a rule that might be wrong. Send us the make, model, year and chassis number along with the destination island and we will check properly before you commit.
Do you handle customs clearance in the Maldives?
Yes, at both ends. We handle customs clearance in Dubai and customs clearance at Male. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.
Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?
Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. That helps when you are buying from several suppliers and want everything to travel to Male in one container, which on this lane also saves handling on the island leg.
Can you ship machinery and building materials to the Maldives?
Yes. We move project cargo to the Maldives as well, and construction and resort development is a big part of it. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship. The island leg needs planning for heavy pieces, so send us the size and weight along with the island and we will work it out.
Can you move my household goods to the Maldives?
Yes. We move full house moves and part loads to the Maldives, including Male, Addu City and the atolls. We pack, collect, move and deliver, and we handle the customs clearance so your things are not waiting on paperwork.
Does my product need a permit?
Only if it is controlled. Ordinary goods just need the customs declaration at Male. Controlled products need a permit from the agency that regulates them. Send us the product and the HS code and we will check before you book.
