Shipping from Dubai
to Malta.
We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to Malta by sea and by air. The container gateway is Malta Freeport at Marsaxlokk, not Valletta, which is the detail most pages get wrong. We ship business and personal cargo, handle the EU paperwork, and deliver anywhere on the islands.
Overview
Sea and air freight
to Malta.
Shipping from Dubai to Malta takes about 20 to 35 days by sea, and 1 to 4 days by air. The container gateway is Malta Freeport at Marsaxlokk, one of the biggest transhipment hubs in the Mediterranean, and cargo from Jebel Ali normally connects through Mediterranean liner networks rather than sailing direct. Grand Harbour at Valletta handles roll-on roll-off, ferry, project and conventional cargo rather than mainstream containers. Air cargo flies into Malta International. Malta is small, so once the goods clear we deliver anywhere on the islands, including Birkirkara, Mosta, Qormi, Zabbar, St Paul’s Bay, Sliema, San Gwann, Naxxar, Valletta and Victoria on Gozo. Navo Shipping handles the sea freight, air freight and customs clearance on the Dubai to Malta route, door to door. Tell us what you are sending and where it is going, and we will tell you which way is cheaper.

Ports and gateways
Sea ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.
Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. Malta has two sea ports we use and one airport. They suit different cargo and different inland legs, so the loading port and the discharge port are worth choosing separately.
POLPort of loading
We collect anywhere in the UAE, free zones included, and load at whichever of these eight suits the cargo.

PODPort of discharge
The right one is whichever leaves the shortest inland leg to your delivery address. On a long lane that leg is a shipment in its own right, so it is planned rather than assumed.

How cargo reaches Malta Freeport, Marsaxlokk
Shipping from Dubai to Malta arrives at the Freeport at Marsaxlokk, not at Valletta. It is one of the largest transhipment hubs in the Mediterranean, so connectivity is good, but cargo from Jebel Ali normally connects through Mediterranean services rather than sailing direct and that connection is where the time goes. Sea freight is priced per container on a full load and per cubic metre on a shared one. How cargo reaches Grand Harbour, Valletta
Shipping from Dubai to Grand Harbour handles vehicles, roll on roll off, conventional and general cargo for the local market, while deep sea container boxes are worked at the Freeport. Times vary from ship to ship, so we confirm the days when we quote. Malta Freeport is the alternative for container shipments. The quote separates ocean freight, transshipment, terminal handling, customs, import VAT, storage and delivery. How cargo reaches Malta International Airport
Air freight from Dubai to Malta International is 1 to 4 days depending on space on the day. It is the only air cargo gateway on the islands, and Gozo is reached afterwards by a short road and ferry leg. Get a rate for Malta International Airport

Import rules
for Malta.
Malta runs on the two EU rules and we handle both. Whoever imports needs an EORI number, which is free, quick to obtain and required before any customs operation. And a safety filing called an Entry Summary Declaration has to reach EU customs before the goods arrive, under the system known as ICS2. The carrier files it and we supply the data. If you are bringing a vehicle there is a step worth planning for. Malta changed its used vehicle customs procedure at the end of 2024, but an inspection by Transport Malta is still required before the vehicle is released. So the car does not simply clear customs and drive away, and that inspection needs booking into the timeline. Tell us what you are sending and we will confirm what applies before you book.

Documentation
Documents you need
for Malta.
These 11 cover most shipments to Malta. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.
- 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
- 02Packing list showing what is inside
- 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
- 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
- 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you
- 06EORI number of the importer in Malta
- 07EU customs declaration
- 08ICS2 Entry Summary Declaration data, filed before arrival
- 09Import licence, where the commodity is controlled
- 10Port health or other regulatory approval, where it applies
- 11Product conformity documents, where the product needs them
Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

Questions
Cargo to Malta
questions, answered.
The 15 we are asked most on the Dubai to Malta route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.
Do you offer movers and packers for a house move from Dubai to Malta?
Yes. Our movers and packers do the packing, wrapping and listing, then we ship your furniture and household goods in a full container, or share one if you have less to send. The item by item list matters, because customs clear personal effects against it. Fuel, gas cylinders, paint, aerosols and loose batteries cannot travel, and we give you the full list before packing day.
How long does shipping from Dubai to Malta take?
Sea freight to Malta takes about 20 to 35 days, and air freight to Malta takes 1 to 4 days. Cargo normally reaches Malta through a Mediterranean connection rather than a direct sailing, and the wait for that onward leg is most of the range. We confirm the live routing and give you a date in writing when we quote.
Which port does my container actually arrive at?
Malta Freeport at Marsaxlokk. Not Valletta, which is what most pages say. The Freeport is one of the biggest transhipment hubs in the Mediterranean and handles the container traffic. Grand Harbour at Valletta takes roll-on roll-off, ferry, project and conventional cargo instead.
How much does shipping from Dubai to Malta cost?
It depends on what you send, how big it is, and where on the islands it is going. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight to Malta is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Air freight to Malta is priced on weight or size, whichever is greater. Send us the details and we send you a price in writing, usually the same day.
Which parts of Malta do you deliver to?
All of them, and Gozo. Birkirkara, Mosta, Qormi, Zabbar, St Paul’s Bay, Sliema, San Gwann, Naxxar, Valletta, Marsaskala, Fgura, Zejtun, Rabat and Victoria on Gozo. The islands are small, so the delivery leg is short. Just give us the address.
Can you deliver to Gozo?
Yes. Gozo is reached by a short road leg and the ferry after the goods clear on Malta. It adds very little to the journey. Tell us the town and we will include it in the quote.
What is an EORI number?
It is a free trading number used across the European Union. Whoever imports the goods needs one and no customs operation happens without it. It is quick to get online, and we check it before we load. Malta is inside the EU customs territory despite being an island group, so the same number applies here as anywhere else in the union.
What is ICS2?
It is the EU safety and security system. A filing called an Entry Summary Declaration has to reach EU customs before your goods arrive. The carrier files it and we supply the data. Cargo transferring at the Freeport is still covered, so the filing follows the first point of entry into the EU rather than the final berth.
Do you deliver door to door?
Yes. We handle freight forwarding to Malta door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them through customs, and bring them to your address. You deal with one company for the whole journey.
Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?
You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. Your goods load at Jebel Ali and come into Malta Freeport. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.
Can you ship a car from Dubai to Malta?
Yes. We do car shipping to Malta, and Grand Harbour handles roll-on roll-off traffic. One step to plan for: Malta changed its used vehicle customs procedure at the end of 2024, but Transport Malta inspection is still required before the vehicle is released. So the car does not clear customs and drive away, and that inspection needs to be in the timeline. Send us the make, model, year and chassis number and we will check.
Do you handle customs clearance in Malta?
Yes, at both ends. We handle customs clearance in Dubai and customs clearance in Malta. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.
Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?
Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. On a lane where the box waits for a Mediterranean connection anyway, consolidating properly in Dubai first is worth doing.
Can you ship machinery and heavy equipment to Malta?
Yes. We move project cargo to Malta as well. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship, and Grand Harbour handles project and conventional cargo. Send us the size and weight and we will work out the best way to move it.
I am moving to Malta. Do I get relief on my belongings?
You may. Used household goods and personal belongings can qualify for transfer of residence relief when you move from outside the EU. Malta normally requires that you lived outside the EU for twelve months and that the belongings were owned and used for at least six months. A qualifying motor vehicle can be included. Tell us your situation and we will explain what to expect.
