Shipping from Dubai
to Mali.

We ship from Dubai and from anywhere in the UAE to Mali by sea and by air. We carry business and personal cargo. Mali has no coast, so goods land at a West African port and travel a long way inland by road. That road leg is the real journey, so we quote it separately rather than hiding it. We handle the paperwork and deliver to your address.

Overview

Sea, road and air freight
to Mali.

Mali has no sea port, so shipping from Dubai works in two stages. Goods sail to Dakar, Abidjan, Tema or Lomé in about 16 to 34 days, then travel by road to Bamako, which usually takes another two to four weeks. Air into Bamako is 3 to 8 days and skips the road leg entirely, which is why it is worth pricing on urgent cargo. We deliver everywhere, including Bamako, Sikasso, Ségou, Mopti, Kayes and Gao. One detail matters a lot on this route: how many tracking notes you need depends on which port the goods pass through, not on what you are sending. Navo Shipping handles the sea freight, air freight and customs clearance on the Dubai to Mali route, door to door. Tell us the delivery city and we will work out the best route.

Ports and gateways

Ports and airports
we ship to from Dubai.

Every bill of lading carries two ports: where the cargo loads, and where it discharges. We load at Jebel Ali or another UAE port. Mali is landlocked, so sea cargo discharges at Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire and travels inland from there. That inland leg is a shipment in its own right, so we plan and price it separately.

Before you ship

Import rules
for Mali.

Mali needs a cargo tracking note on all sea freight, arranged here in Dubai and approved before the ship leaves. There is no grace period and cargo cannot clear without it. Here is the part most people miss: whether you need one note or two depends on which port your goods pass through. Through Abidjan or Tema, the Malian note alone covers it. Through Dakar, Conakry, Cotonou or Lomé, you need that port country's note as well. Nothing about your cargo changes, only the route. So if you have shipped through Abidjan before and switch to Dakar for a better rate, the paperwork changes underneath you. We check it every time.

Documentation

Documents you need
for Mali.

These 8 cover most shipments to Mali. The exact list depends on the commodity and its HS code, so send us both and we confirm what applies before the cargo is booked.

  • 01Invoice showing what you paid for the goods
  • 02Packing list showing what is inside
  • 03Certificate of origin showing where the goods were made
  • 04Bill of lading or air waybill, which is the shipping ticket
  • 05Dubai export paper, which we do for you
  • 06Malian cargo tracking note, approved before the ship leaves
  • 07The transit port country tracking note, where the route needs one
  • 08Transit papers for the road leg to Bamako

Get the paperwork right in Dubai and clearance at destination is routine. Fixing a document after arrival is slow, and storage accrues the whole time it takes.

How it works

Dubai to Mali
shipping, step by step.

Send the cargo details: what it is, where it is going, rough weight and dimensions. We come back with the routes that suit it, sea against road against air, and a written rate with a validity date on it. You pick one, we book it, and one coordinator stays with the shipment until it is delivered in Mali.

Bamako or elsewhere in Mali. We then work out which port suits and how many tracking notes you need.

Questions

Cargo to Mali
questions, answered.

The 14 we are asked most on the Dubai to Mali route. If yours is not here, send it with the commodity and we will answer it directly.

How long does shipping from Dubai to Mali take?

Sea to a West African port is about 16 to 34 days, then two to four weeks by road to Bamako. Air into Bamako is 3 to 8 days. We quote the two stages separately because the road leg is the slower and less predictable half.

How much does shipping from Dubai to Mali cost?

It depends on what you send, how big it is, and where in Mali it is going. We do not publish prices because every shipment is different. Sea freight to Mali is priced per container when you fill one, and per cubic metre when you share one. Air freight to Mali is priced on weight or size, whichever is greater. Send us the details and we send you a price in writing, usually the same day.

Do I need one tracking note or two?

It depends on the port, not the cargo. Through Abidjan or Tema, the Malian note alone covers it. Through Dakar, Conakry, Cotonou or Lomé, you need that country note as well. We check it every time rather than assuming.

I have shipped through Abidjan before. Does Dakar work the same way?

No, and this is the trap. Rerouting through Dakar or Lomé adds a second tracking note that an Abidjan routing does not need. Nothing about your goods changed, but the paperwork did. Tell us the port you intend to use.

Which port should I use for Mali?

Abidjan is the most used and it is a one note routing. Dakar has the shortest sea leg because of where it sits on the coast, but needs two notes and a long road east. Tema and Lomé work through Burkina Faso. We price the realistic options.

Which cities do you deliver to?

Bamako, Sikasso, Ségou, Mopti, Kayes, Gao and elsewhere. These are long road legs on top of an already long corridor, so we quote them as their own stage.

Is the road leg more expensive than the sea leg?

Usually yes, and it carries most of the uncertainty. It is hundreds to over a thousand kilometres across the Sahel through at least one border. Any quote that stops at the port has priced the easier half.

Do you deliver door to door?

Yes. We handle freight forwarding to Mali door to door. We collect the goods in Dubai, move them, clear them through customs, and bring them to your address. You deal with one company for the whole journey.

Can I send a small shipment, or do I need a full container?

You can send as little as one box or one pallet. We put small shipments from different customers into one shared container. This is called LCL, or less than container load. Your goods load at Jebel Ali and come into Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. When you have more goods, you move up to your own full container, which is called FCL. We will tell you which one is cheaper.

Is air freight worth it to Mali?

It deserves a proper look. Air into Bamako does not just shorten the journey, it removes the whole road leg and the tracking note requirement that goes with sea freight. On urgent or valuable cargo the numbers are closer than the rates suggest.

How do road conditions affect my shipment?

They are a genuine part of the planning on Sahel routes, not a disclaimer. Conditions affect timing and sometimes which route makes sense. We check the position per shipment and raise it before you commit cargo.

Do you handle customs clearance in Mali?

Yes, at both ends. We handle customs clearance in Dubai and customs clearance in Mali. You do not need to find your own clearing agent.

Can you collect the goods from my supplier in Dubai?

Yes. We collect anywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and the rest of the UAE. We can also hold your goods in warehousing and storage in Dubai until you are ready to ship. That helps when you are buying from several suppliers and want everything to travel to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire in one container.

Can you ship machinery and heavy equipment to Mali?

Yes. We move project cargo to Mali as well. Big, heavy items go in open top or flat rack containers, or loose on the ship into Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Send us the size and weight and we will work out the best way to move it.
